Fiction verses non-fiction marketing

The “basics” of selling fiction and non-fiction books are essentially the same; it’s all about C3 – CREATE traffic, CAPTURE leads, and CONVERT to sales. However, this is where the two take completely different paths.

 

Non-fiction book marketing is all about showing the reader you have THE solution to the very problem they have been searching for (i.e. how to create high converting Facebook ads). Simply, catch their attention with a highly targeted, eye catching Facebook ad (CREATE traffic), in exchange for their email, give them some of your best Facebook marketing ideas (CAPTURE leads), and drive them to a well written sales page (CONVERT sales). BAM - fast, easy.

 

Romance marketing is a completely different animal altogether! You’re selling the promise of a GREAT read, deep character development, in a well written, unique, and interesting storyline, FULL of hot steam romance. Not impossible, but a much more difficult and longer-term process.

 

How can RWF help increase book sales?

Romance marketing is ALL about relationship building between the author and the reader. It’s a slow, methodical process that takes much more time, requiring repeat contact and engagements with the reader to get them to finally push the I believe button. The key word is ENGAGEMENT.

 

Your engagement with your fans should be 8 non-selling to 2 selling engagements. Interacting with your fans on RWF campaigns is a GREAT way to not only build goodwill, but keep your name on the top of their mind without selling.

 

Readers want know that you’re a “real”, caring person, and don’t just contact them when you’re trying to sell something.

 

Increased Algorithms (Facebook/Twitter/Amazon)

As you know, when you make a post on your Facebook Fan Page, only 5-12 percent of your fans actually see your post (called reach). A way to increase your reach is to increase the number of times fans engage, like, recommend, or comment on your posts. RWF causes have “wide appeal” and fans are extremely passionate and vocal about them.

 

Authors have seen fan engagement “explode” with positive comments and supporting stories. This increased reach, results more brand name exposure and in less paid advertising required to reach the same audience when the time comes to sell your books. Powerful exposure

All this leads to not only increased exposure to potential fans and buyers, but exposure to influencers, tastemakers and powerful industry insiders who can have a dramatic influence on your platform growth. This creates networking opportunities with other authors than can help with cross promotions, anthologies etc.

When readers participate in an RWF cause “with” you, they feel like they are part of “your” team. With each engagement, the relationship only grows stronger.
